Heating

A Tevo radiant heater has been installedon the front wall of the Main Room.  The power Timer switch on the wall under it should be pressed first (limits operation to 2 hours to protect us from enormous bills heating an empty building) so that it shines a blue light.  Then the REMOTE beside the switch should be used to turn this heater on and set the functions.

If you find the Daikin Heatpump on the wall too noisy for conversations, use its remote (beside the front door) - press the Fan tab until is on quiet/night mode (picture of tree and moon).

The Committee have looked at the adequacy of the insulation.  There is fluff in the ceiling, but the walls and underfloor have none, which means that the room rapidly loses heat on cold days. AAAInsulation will do some work to improve the situation during August (on days when no-one is scheduled to use the Main Room.  If you have queries, please contact Robin (022-3982805)

Winter Conversations at the Centre

Caring and Support

At this second Winter Conversations session we would like to share thoughts about caring and support within our community.  Is there a need for a Care Group?  How can we be aware and reach out to those who have a need?  Please come and join us.

All welcome.         A koha will  help cover morning tea costs.

“Living on the Pathway towards Death”

Sunday,  8th September, 3.00p.m.  (Note the starting time)

When I Die  -   with Kathryn Perks

Kathryn Perks, who lives locally, is in touch with organisations and people in NZ who are involved with ideas and activities relating to end-of-life situations.
After we die, there are many important tasks that have to be carried out, usually by family members or friends.
Kathryn has produced a handbook called When I Die and already 2,000 copies have sold which shows its importance.  By collating and recording personal details now, we can make things easier for those who have to carry out all the necessary tasks that are to be fulfilled after a death.

Kathryn will share her experiences and give us guidelines on what we can do now that will help others in the future.

There will be time for general questions and discussions about Living on the Pathway towards Death, and we conclude with cups of hot soup.

 Zoom meeting of Regional liaison people -  Report

Monday 22nd July, 7.00 p.m.

Present ;  Suzanne  Zipperlen, (Kerikeri); Dianna Brindsen, (Auckland);  Michelle Vette, Robyn Hewetson, Bernie Raichle, Diana Bacchus, (Hawkes Bay); Robin McKenzie -Suggate, (Christchurch)

Apologies - Janet Molloy, (Wellington), Stella Hamilton Baker, (Tauranga). Sarah Oliver, (Hamilton)

 The aim of these meetings is for people from regions in NZ to meet with Michelle and assist with communication by discussing events or situations related to the Anthroposophical Society, and then informing their local  members and friends.

Reports were given from each region - study groups, conferences  etc.

= A Waldorf school has started in Kerikeri and has one class at present.

= Robin McKenzie-Suggate is now liaison for Playgroups/Early childhood in the South Island. Marjorie Theyer continues with this task in the North Island.

= Hohepa (with 740 staff) recently had a special celebration with Jan, one of the new Section co-leaders as guest speaker.

= Phillip Rebuke, Pedagogical Section Leader, was guest speaker at the Early Childhood Conference at Titirangi, attended by 80 participants.  He also gave other talks there.

~~~ Visiting Guest Speakers
People were surprised that they did not know of Hohepa's recent celebration nor the overseas visitor at the Early Childhood Conference.  Could people arranging events where overseas speakers are invited, please let Michelle know, so events can be coordinated, and communications strengthened.
~~~ Society Day and AGM of the Anthroposophical Society in NZ

Saturday, August 10th, 8.30 a.m. at Hastings. (Details above)

~~~ Communication etc
= Some people thought notices from the Council were too wordy, too long.  More bullet points could be used.
= Suggested that local groups could have an afternoon where members and friends are given assistance on how to log in to Anthroposophical info as some people find this difficult.
= Local groups were asked to  print off a hard copy of notices and make these available to members and friends.
= People expressed that they would like to know about main events in other areas as well as their own.  If so, give their email addresses to editors of others' newsletters.
= Ueli Hurter has written a report on his trip to Australia and NZ in the BD magazine.  Michelle will try to get a copy and circulate it or its reference.
= In relation to the 100 year commemoration of RS Death Day (March 30th 2025), Michelle referenced the book by Peter Selg ‘Rudolf Steiner’s Artelier. The final years.’
= Last year the Council reviewed the Members' list, eliminating anyone who had not been heard from for two years, or who had not paid, or negotiated, a contribution for two years.  This reduced the number of members, also reduced the CHF90 ($169.19 today) per member that the Council is to pay annually to the General Anthroposophical Society in Dornach.  Please refer to the Annual donation appeal for the details of this payment per member.
= Some mentioned the time-consuming task of keeping mailing lists up to date, both nationally and locally.
=It was asked if local members have to be members of the Anthroposophical Society in NZ.  Michelle answered "yes."  There are three types of membership
  1. General Anthroposophical Society (Dornach) (GAS),
  2. National (ASNZ)
  3. Local or Branch (here it is the Hawkes Bay Branch)
~~~ 100 Years since Rudolf Steiner's death on March 31st, 1925.

It is hoped that local branches or groups will arrange ways to commemorate this event.  What can be done?  Ideas can be shared at the next Zoom meeting.

~~~ “Great Expectations”    the next Kolisko Conference
11th to 14th April, 2025 - at Taikura Steiner School, Hastings
We have High Expectations of teachers, parents, children, ourselves.  Related themes will be explored at this conference.
This conference is for those working with, or interested in children,  education, medicine, parenting. It will be a major event with guest speakers:
  • Dr Adam Blanning, GP and Medical Section leader,
  • Chris Burke and Anne de Wild from the Humming Bird Principle.
A detailed booklet about Great Expectations will be distributed later this year.
These visitors will be giving other courses (biographies, etc) including one at Taruna, Havelock North, on 15th and 16th April, 2025.  If you wish to invite them to hold a course in your region, contact Michelle.
~~~ Pastoral Care

Dianna B. (Auckland) spoke about how they are trying to care for their members and friends who have needs - providing soup for those who are sick, offering transport for those who no longer drive at night etc.  Someone was not able to pay for electricity/heating.

~~~ Regional Zoom meetings are every 2 months.
