A few thoughts arising from lectures by Dr Adam Blanning at the Kolisko Conference.
Dr Eugene Kolisko was the original Waldorf School Doctor appointed by Rudolf Steiner.
This conference is named in his honour as it marries two streams: Education and Medicine.
The teacher works primarily with the macro archetype of developing humanity in a class of children who are experiencing the same development phase, whereas the Doctor works therapeutically with individual children/human beings when they become displaced from the generic development of the class.
Rudolf Steiner hinted in a lecture to medical students that human size is not random. Our task is to fully inhabit our body – if it is too big (giant of the fairy tale) we will not be able to be fully in control. We are not born full-size but grow in general at a speed at which we can develop sufficient capacities to properly manage our bodies.
Before birth we approach our parents-to-be with our particular spiritual intentions. Our parents meet us with hopes and expectations (which may not match) expressed by their stream of heredity.
As we engage with the world we develop capacities from our varying experiences through the first 7-year phases. If this can proceed in a healthy way, then we can develop an etheric body with vitality. By 21, after 3 7-year phases, we have, hopefully, developed a healthy physicality as a basis for fulfilling our pre-birth intentions.
Our work as parents and teachers is in service of this; we need to be careful that our “expectations” of the child don’t hinder this individual accomplishment through personal experience.

Annual General Meeting
3pm Saturday 26 April at the Centre.
Members will receive by separate email access to the Agenda and Reports for our AGM.
I would like to thank all those members who have responded to a request to confirm or correct the details that the Branch has on record by their name. I would be glad if those who have not responded yet to do so soon, before the AGM. Records easily get out of date as people move home or change phones or email addresses, etc. or seemingly disappear! MADE IN AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND
A WORKSHOP WEEKEND - 9 to 11 May in Auckland
Christopher Houghton Budd will be providing an opportunity to explore social renewal with a focus on the economic sphere.
With the current socio-political context in the world, and the significant changes with Trump’s responses to problems on a world stage, including his fiscal way of fixing problems in the world, can we use this opportunity to ask and explore “How can we create a different future?”
We are interested in the folk soul of Aotearoa.
How is Aotearoa positioned in the wider world context? How does this relate to the folk soul of Aotearoa?
This question is particularly relevant in relation to what is happening in the world context, and the significant changes we are witnessing at home and globally.
Christopher will be speaking about why the Society needs to be funded and the responsibility of being part of the Michaelic stream, particularly in light of what we are witnessing in the wider world context.
We would like to invite you to explore these questions with us, to discuss, explore, and find some insights together.

Accommodation or House Sitting
Tara Lamb, a past Taikura student and recent Taikura parent, seeks 'house sitting' from Easter Monday for a week.
Tara writes: “I am starting the one-year Rudolf Steiner teacher training course at Taruna this year.
My two girls (Mostar 13 & Hazel 10) and myself, are looking for a place to stay from the 21st to the 25th April.
If you need a house sitter – we can do it.
Or if you have a self-contained sleep-out that would be wonderful.
We are happy to share a room and can contribute towards power and food. My children will be at friends’ places while I'm at the course.
We would be most grateful if you could help, or know someone who can.
Please contact me on 021-2604992”

Following her talk at the end of March, Eva K has offered the following thoughts:
TRINITY in our lives.
We can begin to understand the meaning of Trinity by looking at how we relate to something as common as SALT.
- We can observe and describe the physical properties of Salt as a substance. I can describe the material, sense-perceptible 'thing' commonly known as salt. (the given reality before us, known as percept in the Philosophy of Freedom). The salty water of the oceans is denser than fresh water from the rivers, so the saltier water sinks to the bottom of the ocean, Ships float better in Salty water.
- We can notice how we relate to Salt in our feeling life. I can be interested in the properties of salt: I can touch its crystals properties; I can be interested in its origins, whether from the oceans or from salt-mines. Loving interest will show us the path to knowing more and more about the concept (the spiritual archetype) of salt. By “loving interest” I mean that I include myself in the process – I realize that I am the one who ‘perceives’ and the one who makes “sense” -or not- of the sense-perceptible properties of salt. The bridge from the physical is formed by thinking with loving interest. Otherwise I can only see what my senses allow me to see. If I don't take the step consciously, salt remains just a chemical formula: NaCl.
- How does Salt contribute spiritually to the world? For me, the question was: Why did Christ say to His disciples: "You are the salt of the earth"?
What is the spiritual nature of salt? I realize that salt has two main properties, (a) it is finely diluted (3.5% which is a tenth of what it could hold in solution) in the oceans. The wqtery part of the blood contains a similar concentration of salt as the oceans. Its God-given role is to dilute (digest) impurities and change them into food for the ocean creatures. To do that it has to sacrifice its crystalline shape. A second main properties of salty is its beneficial impact on the survival and distribution of marine organisms – the life-giving food early in our food chain.
Now you carry on thinking, dear reader.
Trinitarian thinking is our link to the Creator Spirit, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
From the Foundation Stone Mantra: “Denn es walten des Geistes Weltgedanken im Weltenwesen Licht erflehend.”
“The Spirit's world-embracing thoughts, plead for the Light in the human creative spirit to be re-ignited.” (my translation and interpretation)
